OUR THREE STEP PROCESS

COMMISSIONS

Creating specialty designs for clients interested in landscapes, wildlife in landscapes and wildlife.

PROJECT PARAMETERS

Requests for commissioned artwork continue to be made. Since the art portfolio presented on this website has a focus on both landscape and wildlife, any requests need to fall closely within those boundaries, with horses and pets being the exception. A written description of the project is required that can be the basis of subsequent discussions when moving forward. Potential clients should consider the project parameters which directly impact the overall cost. There are three consideration in undertaking a project. The overall size with frame or stand materials, the compositional complexity and the medium to be used. Photos or any other source material submitted by a potential client must not have any copyright infringements on them if used. I do have an extensive personal photo library of both landscapes and wildlife from which to draw upon in complimenting clients photos. Both progress reports and deadline need to be discussed and should remain flexible. Final framing of paintings, drawings or stands for sculptures also need discussion and are an additional cost to project. Any work of art that I create will conform to my standards of quality and ethics and I will stand by them.

CREATIVE UNDERSTANDING

Discussing the details of a project is the next step after a proposal by the client is made. A clear understanding of the project and its cost need to be clearly understood for both client and artist. The process steps will be documented, notes taken and copies kept. It must be understood from the beginning that creative and quality control remains in the hands of this artist, as does copyright. Changes made along the way from the original agreed concept to what becomes the final artwork will be an added cost. In most cases when working out a final composition, both layout concepts and studies may be made by the artist and submitted to the client for their approval. Ownership of those studies also remain with the artist and will be treated separately from the original project unless there is a clear written understanding between client and artist. Ongoing discussions and project updates are important in order to satisfy both the client and the artist. Deadlines may need to be updated in order to meet both parties’ satisfaction.

PAYMENT AGREEMENT

Deadlines are important, but they need to be flexible when creativity is involved. This is where updates for clients serve their purpose. Commissioned artwork sales are in Canadian currency. Clients are required to pay 50% upfront and the remainder when the artwork is finished. There are instances where the two payments can stratal two years. Paying in advance is important, as it allows artists to purchase materials, and cover their initial expenses. There will be charges in addition to the cost of the original art, like mats, framing and/or stands for sculptures, packaging, postage and delivery. For a limited time only, no HST will be applied to the sale of artwork. As mentioned earlier, artist still retains all copyright over original art. The artist reserves the right to be the only one who can have reproductions created of his artwork. A log of ownership of all original artwork sold will be kept by the artist and the privacy policy will be upheld. (Note: there are times when the artist may need to have retrospective shows of original artwork and will need the owners permission to do so in order to bring as many original artworks together).

Lets talk and begin the conversation.
